Many of the people commented above have taken this song in completely wrong sense. The patriotism asked for in the song nowhere calls for hatred against anyone.

If you consider this stanza, it calls for a contemplation of the glorious history. History shows the period Buddha, Chanakya, Chandragupta and Ashoka to be the greatest times in our history. It was not the time of insane hatred, not of glorifying wars but it was the time when the rulers were secular, peaceful, non-violent and inclusive. The notion of patriotism was not as narrow minded as hatred for neighboring countries.
